Corporate team building activities, run in VR

What a session looks like

We bring three team games, an event manager and a scoreboard to your office, offsite or hotel. Teams of four to six rotate through Bomb Defusal, OhShape and VR Pictionary in scored rounds, and the scores go up on a screen everyone can see. A round takes about half an hour. Three rounds, one per game, fill most of a two-hour slot.

Only one person wears the headset at a time. The rest of the team talks them through it, which is the point: the games are built so the group has to communicate to score. Nobody sits out and nobody needs to have used VR before.

We ran this for a group of more than 100 AT&T channel partners with Maritz at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, with the team scores driving a food bank donation. The case study is further down this page.

Teams of 4 to 6

One headset per team, so a group of 30 needs 5 to 6 stations. Any headcount works; we size it to the room.

Scored rounds

Every game is scored and the scoreboard is on a screen. Prizes for the top team turn a demo into a competition.

Three games, one crew

Bomb Defusal, OhShape and VR Pictionary come as a set. Each one needs a different kind of teamwork.

Staffed, start to finish

An event manager sets up, explains the rules, runs the rotation and takes it all down. You host, we run it.

Fits an office or a ballroom

Each station needs about 8 by 8 feet and one outlet. No Wi-Fi. A conference room works.

Anywhere in the US

We’re based in Houston and travel with the gear. Offsites, sales kickoffs and all-hands are our usual jobs.

Why it works better than the usual options

Most team building activities put people in a room and hope they talk. These games make them. In Bomb Defusal the person in the headset can see the bomb and nobody else can; the team reads the manual and talks them through it, and they have five minutes. In OhShape the team calls out the shapes coming at the player. In VR Pictionary one person draws in 3D and the rest guess. Quiet people end up shouting instructions. Managers end up taking orders from interns. That’s the part people remember.

It also solves the usual problem with team building: the awkward first half hour. Putting on a headset in front of your team is a small, shared dare, and the ice is broken by the second player.

It’s built for channel partner incentives, sales kickoffs, department offsites, holiday parties and new-hire cohorts. It works for 12 people and it works for 100.

See the rental packages or send us the date, the city and the headcount and we’ll tell you how many stations you need.

Maritz + AT&T Case Study

Using a range of VR Team Building experiences, the VRR team helped Maritz plan and execute an incredible event for AT&T.

Maritz + AT&T Case Study

Using a range of VR Team Building experiences, the VRR team helped Maritz plan and execute an incredible event for AT&T.

VirtualRealityRental.co & Maritz Create An Unforgettable Team Building Experience For AT&T

The goal:

VirtualRealityRental.co partnered with Maritz in order to create an immersive team building experience for a group of AT&T’s top channel partners. Over 100 attendees participated in the event hosted at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes.

After strategizing with the Maritz team, our role was to execute a VR teambuilding activation that would simultaneously:

  1. Engage attendees while helping to foster deeper connections

  2. Create a fun, memorable, and entertaining event experience

  3. Incorporate AT&T’s corporate social responsibility campaign into the overall game plan

The event:

We were able to help Maritz accomplish these goals by creating a team building plan centered on friendly competition and giving back. Bringing three of our most popular team building experiences (OhShape, Bomb Defusal, and VR Pictionary), we enabled guests to cycle through experiences while keeping score throughout the evening. For example, in Bomb Defusal, teams of 6 competed against each other to see who would be able to defuse the most bombs in a given time period. After their time was up, points were allocated and tracked based on group performance.

While we tracked game scores for individual rewards, we also kept tabs on event-wide scores among all attendees. This data was used to support AT&T’s goal of delivering food packs to a local food bank. The more the group participated in the experience, the more total points they would earn, and those points were used grow the size of the charitable donation. Simply put: Have more fun, continue to compete, and give back while doing it.

Examples of the three experiences we brought to the event are included in their own sections, but can also be viewed by clicking the buttons below:

The Result:

At the end of the night, points were totaled and individual prizes were awarded. For this event, prizes included both cash as well as virtual reality headsets for attendees. Finally, the total group score was revealed and the number of earned food bank donations was announced.

Between the charitable donation driven, the overwhelmingly positive attendee response, and being able to successfully hit each of our own, Maritz’, and At&T’s outlined goals, everyone involved left having achieved what they set out to do. It’s a great feeling, and one that we’d love to help you reach as well. The activation detailed here is just one of many that we’ve created with our event partners, and we look forward to finding out what we can create with you and your team.

Bomb Defusal

Work together to defuse a VR bomb before the time runs out!

Bomb Defusal

Work together to defuse a VR bomb before the time runs out!

Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes!

Breakdown:

A team of 4-6 people are tasked with defusing a bomb with one major catch: only one person can see it.

Only the team member wearing the VR headset can see and interact with the bomb. It’s up to the rest of the team to use their manuals (provided by us) to help the VR player successfully disarm it.

Example of a 4 player team experience:

  • Activity Length: 32 minutes

    • 2 minute introduction

    • 2 minute team strategy

    • 28 minute play time (7 minutes of headset time per player)

      • Within that 7 minutes:

        • 1 minute to get familiar

        • 5 minutes to disarm the bomb

        • 1 minute to clean headset and pass to next team mate

        • Teams will strategize during this last minute

Requirements:

  • Tables

  • Power to each table

  • Correct number of chairs for group size

  • Bomb diffusal manuals

  • One moderator per table

Take It To The Next Level:

Custom table runners make for a great addition to this experience. They’ll help to set your space apart and provide a “pop” that invites guests to start playing. Plus, we’re happy to deliver runners that match your brand colors, event theme, or promotional content.

OhShape

Gain points by moving your body while staying on beat!

OhShape

Gain points by moving your body while staying on beat!

Everybody dance now!

Breakdown:

There’s a wall coming straight at you, and there’s a kind-of-you-shaped hole in the center. If you can match the shape, then you get the points!

This experience is all about getting people moving and having fun. In our experience, it’s perfect for getting people out of their shell and has never failed to draw a crowd.

Example of a 6 player group experience:

  • Activity Length: 35 minutes

    • 5 minute introduction

    • 30 minute play time (5 minutes of headset time per player)

      • Within that 5 minutes:

        • 1 minute to pick song/level difficulty

        • 3 minutes of vr activity

        • 1 minute to clean headset and pass to next team mate

Requirements:

  • Tall table to hold VR laptop

  • 6 Tall Stool Chairs Per Station

  • Power to each table

  • 1 TV / TV Stand per table

  • One moderator per table

Fun Customization Tip:

Your guests will be the center of attention as soon as they put on their headset, so why not get in on the action? We can provide custom branding across the front of all of our VR equipment options. That could include your company logo, event-specific content, a design matched to the theme of the team building experience, and more. Most of the VR experience happens inside the headset, but we like to show some love to the outside too!

VR Pictionary

Channel your inner VR Picasso to see how many your team can get right!

VR Pictionary

Channel your inner VR Picasso to see how many your team can get right!

What is that!?

Breakdown:

The game is simple: draw what’s on the card, and have your team guess the correct answer. But have you ever drawn a parrot in virtual reality? You’re about to!

This VR experience is fantastic for team building events because regardless of how your team is doing, you’ll all be having a great time.

Example of a 6 player group experience:

  • Activity Length: 35 minutes

    • 3 minute introduction/demo

    • 2 minute team strategy session per round

    • 30 minute play time (5 minutes of headset time per player)

      • Within that 5 minutes:

        • 1 minute to pick song/level difficulty

        • 3 minutes of drawing

        • 1 minute to clean headset and pass to next team mate

Requirements:

  • Tall table to hold VR laptop

  • 6 Chairs Per Station

  • Power to table

  • 1 TV / TV Stand per table

  • One moderator per table

Make It Your Own:

Pictionary is pretty simple: Step 1. See a word, Step 2. Draw it. Because of that simplicity, the options for how the game can play out are nearly endless. One way of making this a great experience for attendees is by creating a custom deck of Pictionary cards just for your event. By getting creative and putting your own twist on the game, you can really make it stand out.
